Happy New Year!
This is John Pepper – I’m one of the founders of Worthee.
Many of you shared your resolutions for 2021 with us a few days ago. We wanted to share some of them with you.
The most popular resolution – 🥁 drumroll 🥁 – was to be a better person, a better friend, a better brother, sister, mother, father, family member. The world needs more kind people who care about others… so we are all rooting for you! Have you ever tried to be 100% kind for an entire day? If you haven’t, give it a shot. Then do it again the next day. Seriously… one day at a time and the world’s most important habit might spread!
The second most popular resolution was getting healthier. Some of you want to lose weight, others want to exercise, a couple said they wanted to stop smoking. I, personally, just finished my first year since I was 13 without having one alcoholic beverage during the entire year. 2020 was a tough year for many, but this one new habit made it one of the most important in my lifetime. I’m committed to doing that again. I also need to watch those first bites of sugar, fatty meats, and pasta. As an overeater, once I dig into any of those three, I’m unstoppable from there. I know a few of you share my pain… 2021 will be different!
Many of you want to earn more money and others want to save money. Do both! If I’ve learned anything about our Worthee Members, you work hard and therefore I tell you that you deserve more money. Too many of you make less than a comfortably livable wage, and that needs to change. Check out Fight For 15 when you get a chance. Get active. But also keep working hard, do right by your employer and fellow employees, and ask questions every day to learn more so when the next opportunity comes up you are in the field of candidates!
Love more said one of you. Yes, said the rest of us who read this aloud on our Worthee New Years Eve livestream. Yes. Love more.
“Anything that will benefit me in the long run”… so good. Working hard on improving yourself, your skills, your contributions today may not show results for days, months even years… and there are no guarantees that they ever will… but knowing the long run is where the gold is at should keep a lot of us going forward.
“Not going to let anyone walk over me”… that never feels good. But walking over others as a response isn’t good either. Many books have been written on this topic. No better time to pick one up than today… or find a good podcast on abusive behavior, attracting respect from others, etc. I bet Brene Brown has a few things to say here 🤓
Let’s see what else came in:
- Get Married
- Enroll back into college
- Be more spiritual and meditate!
And many, many others.
One final note… about 30% of you did not have resolutions. And resolutions aren’t for everyone. But I’ve always found that when I wrote down my goals, aspirations, and dreams, and reviewed them every so often, some of the craziest ones actually, just once in a while, come true.
